City Council Initiates Management Advisory Committee to review options for the Ashland Community Center

At the October 14, 2024, Ashland City Council Study Session, the Council requested staff initiate a Management Advisory Committee (MAC) to review options for the future of the Ashland Community Center, located at 59 Winburn Way. The committee will assess whether to renovate the existing facility or pursue new construction.

The MAC will examine historical and current data on the Community Center to determine the best course of action, considering both structural modifications and the potential benefits of building a new facility. Recommendations will be presented to the Director of Public Works, who will then bring them to the City Council for further public discussion.

This initiative is part of the Council's effort to gather input from community members with expertise in construction and renovation, as well as from facility users, to ensure that any decision reflects the needs of the community. The MAC will work to balance the preservation of a historical building with the functionality of a new structure.

The first meeting of the MAC will include a tour of the facility and a Q&A session with City staff and construction representatives from Outlier Construction. Subsequent meetings will focus on developing consensus on the recommendations for the Council’s consideration.

Meeting Schedule:

  • Meeting #1: Facility tour and background information discussion
  • Meeting #2: Formal meeting to work toward recommendations
  • Meeting #3: If necessary, continuation of consensus-building discussions

This process will help inform the Council’s decision on how to best proceed with the Ashland Community Center, ensuring a thorough review with community input at every stage. To stay abreast on this project and view virtual tours of the center, please visit ashlandoregon.gov/CommunityCenter
