Ashland Fire & Rescue (AF&R) provides 24-hour service and in 2024 responded to over 5,900 calls in Ambulance Service Area 3 (ASA 3). This area is in Southern Oregon and exceeds 600 square miles. ASA 3 is the result of a contract with Jackson County to provide transport services to not only the citizens of Ashland, but those in surrounding communities and visitors to our region. Since 2012, the call volume for ASA 3 has steadily increased.
In 2023, AF&R created the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division to help with the increasing call volume. This Division’s primary task is the dedicated resource delivery of EMS services, commonly referred to as Single-Role EMS/staff. This new staffing model allows AF&R greater capacity in which to respond to all calls for service as well as meeting its ASA requirements. The introduction of the single-role EMS model has proven to be effective and is helping AF&R maintain response times.
