[ARCHIVED] Ashland City Council seeks applicants to fill vacant council seat

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Ashland City Councilor Doug Knauer officially announced his resignation from the City Council. In response, the City has opened an application and selection process to fill the vacant seat. The Council has 60 days to appoint a replacement. 

 

Application Process

Applications are now being accepted and must be submitted by Wednesday, May 14, 5 p.m., apply online. Qualified applicants will be invited to interview with current City Councilors and the Mayor.

 

Appointment Timeline

  • Application deadline: Wednesday, May 14, 5 p.m. 
  • Interviews conducted through: Saturday, May 31 
  • Official appointment: Tuesday, June 3, during the City Council Business Meeting

The selected individual will serve through December 31, 2026.
Following the November 2026 election, the elected individual for this seat will serve a two-year term ending December 31, 2028.

 

Eligibility Requirements

Per the City Charter, applicants must:

  • Reside within Ashland city limits
  • Be registered to vote in the City of Ashland

Applicants who do not meet these criteria will not be considered.

Citizens’ Budget Committee meetings

The Citizens’ Budget Committee will hold its first public meeting on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 3 p.m. in the Council Chambers to begin reviewing the City Budget for the 2025–2027 biennium. Additional meetings are scheduled for May 7 and May 14 at the same time and location. 

 

Interested City Council applicants are encouraged to attend the Citizens’ Budget Committee meetings to listen, observe and learn more about the City." More information is available at ashlandoregon.gov/CitizensBudgetCommittee.
