[ARCHIVED] Fire Season 2024 Is Over! Short Open Burn Window Ends November 1

2024-SWO-Fire-season-ends

2024 Summer Fire Season Has Ended. Open Burning is Allowed Only with a Permit from Ashland Fire & Rescue

Widespread rain has ended fire season in Jackson and Josephine counties as of October 27, 2024. The end of fire season allows for a short open burn season within the City of Ashland, lasting until November 1st, when air quality regulations restrict open burning inside the Rogue Valley Air Quality Management Area between November 1st and March 1st each year.

To request an open burn permit inspection, please fill out the online form. Burning is limited to native vegetation for fuels reduction purposes and only as a last option after considering chipping and hauling debris.

The following fire restrictions are in effect throughout the City of Ashland on all properties, at all times of the year:

  •  Fireworks and sky lanterns are prohibited throughout the year within the City of Ashland

Expect smoke during prescribed, or controlled, burning in the cool season.

Forestland prescribed burning takes place outside of Fire Season. Expect to see periodic smoke from forests surrounding Ashland during the cool and wet season. Sign up for burn alerts by texting WATERSHED to the number 888777. Transient smoke may impact Ashland during burning. To learn more about protecting yourself and your family when smoke is in the air, please see the Smokewise Ashland website.

Is your home prepared for wildfire? Outside of fire season is a good time to work on your defensible space and home hardening!

Ashland Fire & Rescue asks that all Ashland residents remember the Ready, Set, Go! evacuation levels. Be prepared for the possibility of evacuation at READY or Level 1. Be READY now by signing up for emergency alerts, preparing an emergency and personal “Go kit”, and develop an evacuation plan.

If you have questions, contact Ashland Fire & Rescue at 541-482-2770. For additional information visit ashlandoregon.gov/FireSeasonInformation

Regional fire season information for private, BLM, and all non-federal lands can be found on the ODF website and for National Forest lands at the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest
