[ARCHIVED] Pioneer Hall Finish Line in Sight, Community Center Work Continues

Community Center and Pioneer Hall, circa 2013

Facility Improvements Update:

Pioneer Hall
Pioneer Hall is nearing completion. As the remaining scope of work narrows, the project team is gaining confidence in the projected finish date. The remaining tasks include:

  1. Installation of heat pumps
  2. Construction of a retaining wall behind the Community Center (requiring access through the alley between Pioneer Hall and the Community Center)
  3. Final building inspection

While construction is currently forecasted to finish by June 16, 2025, it’s important to note that the facility will not be available for public use or rentals immediately upon completion. Additional steps—including staffing, policy development and City Council approval of fees—must still be finalized before the building can open to the public.

We appreciate the community’s patience as we work through these final operational details to ensure Pioneer Hall is safe, well-managed, and ready to serve residents effectively.

Community Center
The Community Center project is currently scheduled for completion in mid-to-late August, based on known conditions. However, the timeline is subject to change due to potential unforeseen conditions and material procurement delays.

Recent developments include:

  • The need for exterior shoring to support the north wall, as structural conditions discovered during demolition were determined insufficient to safely continue work without reinforcement.
  • Degraded floor conditions were identified during flooring removal, including areas where structural material is missing and sections of floor beams that had been modified to accommodate plumbing and sanitary systems. These conditions are being addressed as part of the current scope of work.

Further updates will be provided as work progresses and additional information becomes available. We are Better Together!
