Elections
In the November 3, 2026, General Election, voters will consider the following seats:

*City Charter Article III Section 4 - The appointee's term of office shall begin immediately upon appointment and shall continue until a successor, elected at the next biennial election, takes office for the unexpired term.
**For City Council and Parks Commission, the three highest vote recipients shall fill the three four-year biennial terms, and the next highest vote recipient or recipients shall fill the remaining unexpired Council seat or seats.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any candidate must be registered to vote in Ashland. Verify your voter status.
- Candidates must live within Ashland's city limits at the time of filing for candidacy.
Things to consider
Mayor and Councilors
- Compensation: Receive a monthly stipend of $900, plus a travel and training budget.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 15–25 hours per week
- Meetings:
- City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Study sessions take place on the Monday prior to each meeting at 5:30 p.m.
- Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Serve on the Citizens’ Budget Committee
- Participate on other boards, commissions, or committees as assigned.
- Attendance at meetings is required.
Parks Commissioners
- Compensation: This is a volunteer position.
- Time Commitment: Approximately 5–10 hours per week.
- Meetings:
- APRC meetings are held on the first and second Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed.

Resources for Candidates
Candidate filing form SEL 101 can be submitted to the Community Development Department at 51 Winburn Way, with photo ID, Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Or contact the City Recorder at (541) 488-5307 or recorder@ashlandoregon.gov to schedule an appointment to turn in your paperwork.
- Once the SEL 101 has been approved, the City Recorder will provide the candidate with an Approval to Circulate form
- Signatures may not be collected until the Approval form is received which will include the Petition ID
- Candidate circulates SEL 121- Candidate Signature Sheet (Petition ID must be on each sheet)
- The City Charter requires 25 signatures, but it is recommended that 30 be collected
- Complete the SEL 338 - Petition Submission form
- The original hard copy signature sheets (SEL 121) and Petition Submission form (SEL 338) are turned in to the City Recorder. To make an appointment, email recorder@ashlandoregon.gov.
- Jackson County verifies all the signatures
- City Recorder will contact the candidate with the verification results

IMPORTANT DATES 2026
Important Notice: Section 17b of House Bill 4024 (2024) changed the candidate filing deadline for incumbent public office holders. An incumbent seeking re-election to the same office must file their declaration of candidacy or nominating petition at least seven days before the applicable filing deadline for non-incumbent candidates. Incumbent candidates who were appointed to the position they are seeking election to are subject to the same filing deadline as non-incumbent candidates.
